VOLGATECH AT THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE "RESEARCH IN CENTRAL EURASIA"

From June 23 to 26, 2022, the international conference "Central Eurasian Studies" organized by the Society for Central Eurasian Studies (CESS) was held at the Tashkent University of World Economy and Diplomacy.

This association brings together scientists from various scientific disciplines involved in the study of history, ethnography, culture, political processes and international relations in the vast region of Central Asia and the South Caucasus. In recent years, issues of research on climate change and the impact of natural factors on the social sphere have become increasingly important in the activities of CESS. For example, on migration processes or local conflicts.

In the countries of Central Asia, there are already real risks of turning problems of ecology and rational use of natural resources (especially access to water resources) into threats to national security. Therefore, international scientific cooperation in this area, as well as the training of qualified personnel for the environmental industry and local universities, remains among the priorities of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

The conference was attended by Alexei Fominykh, Head of International Programs and Projects at Volgatekh, who presented a report on the state of international academic mobility in Central Asia and Russia's role as a center of attraction for educational migration flows from the region. The role of our university as one of the leading educational centers in the field of ecology and environmental management was also mentioned, and the experience of international cooperation between Volgatekh and partners from Uzbekistan in the field of climate research was not left without attention.

As the rector of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy Sadyk Safoev noted at the opening of the conference, “green” diplomacy should be built in relations between the states of the region, based on mutual acceptance of the highest value of the environment and collective responsibility for its preservation.

Recall that in May 2022, Volgatech signed an updated cooperation agreement with the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Melioration Engineers, the leading research university in Uzbekistan in the field of geosciences.
