Scientists of Volgatech at a conference in Bishkek

At the end of May, Volgatech staff members of the Center of Sustainable Forest Management and Remote Sensing participated in the International Conference GISCA 2023 "Geospatial approaches to understanding the changing world", which is held among the countries of Central Asia and China in a distance and face-to-face format.

This year the event was held at the Kyrgyz State Technical University named after I.Razzakov. Projected applications for joint research projects, academic mobility prospects in the framework of Master's degree programs, and launching double degree programs were discussed during the visits.

Leading specialists fr om Sweden, Austria, Spain, Slovenia, China, Kazakhstan and Russia attended the conference, wh ere the staff of the Center of Sustainable Forest Management and Remote Sensing presented three scientific reports on the research topic of the team within the framework of the project of the Russian Science Foundation. The presentations focused on the remote monitoring of forest fires, predictive modeling of forest cover in the Middle Volga region in the context of climate change under three IPCC scenarios and carbon sequestration by young stands on reserve lands in the Mari El Republic. Specialists were interested in research experience and publications in the field of remote sensing and monitoring forest ecosystems. Additional meetings beyond the program have been arranged to discuss possible educational research and join projects.

The meetings indicated a shared interest in the development of international cooperation between the universities, the organization of joint schools, student mobility and joint research projects based on bilateral relations between Russia and Kyrgyzstan. Bachelor's students from Kyrgyzstan universities expressed interest in the master's degree programs provided by the Institute of Forestry and Nature Management at Volga State University of Technology.
