In July 2023, Iurii Zaitsev, the head of Mari El , travelled to Beijing with members of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation to promote collaboration with China, a reliable and prospective trading partner of Russia.
The development of educational possibilities for Chinese students at institutions in our region was one of the key priorities of that visit for the Mari El Head. Mr. Zaitsev emphasised that by now higher education institutions have built a solid scientific basis, and the newly developed technologies are being implemented in many industries. Thus, a few Chinese students graduated from Volgatech Master’s degree programme "Geomatics in Nature Management". The university also cooperates with the Association for the Advancement of Sinology in Russia, and the Confucius Institute at Nizhny Novgorod State Linguistic University.
Today, a group from the People's Republic of China visited Volga State University of Technology as part of their partners' return visit to our Republic. The discussion covered the potential for educational collaboration between the two nations. Igor Petukhov, rector of Volgatech, remarked at the meeting that the university has been collaborating with other countries for quite some time. As a result, the university runs summer schools for Chinese students (which were paused for some time and are to be resumed after the COVID-19 break), has six partnership agreements in place with Chinese educational institutions, and is actively involved in the BRICS initiatives.
The officials visited a number of labs and training facilities, as well as the Volgatech Botanical Garden, as part of the work programme.
