From June 15 to 20, the 7th Russian-Chinese International Environmental Online School “Sustainable Nature Management under Climate Change: Methods and Technologies” was successfully held in a hybrid format.
This large-scale educational project brought together 50 participants from three countries. The school was attended by 35 students from Fujian Normal University and Yunnan Normal University (China), as well as 15 participants from Russia, Tajikistan, Cameroon, and Uzbekistan. All sessions were conducted remotely via videoconference, allowing for broad international participation without the need for travel.
Over the course of a week, future ecologists, foresters, and geographers explored current priorities in international cooperation in forestry, discussed the global role of forest ecosystems, and examined their importance for the implementation of climate strategies in Russia and China.
Special emphasis was placed on practical training. Through online lectures and interactive sessions, participants gained hands-on experience with modern remote sensing methods, including the use of multi-sensor LiDAR and satellite data processing via the Google Earth Engine platform. They also learned to assess carbon budgets, monitor vegetation dynamics, and evaluate ecological restoration efforts in key river basins.
The program featured over 15 expert presentations from leading researchers at Volga State University of Technology (Volgatech), Yunnan Normal University, and Fujian Normal University. Topics ranged from forest monitoring and urban ecosystem health to climate policy, environmental diplomacy, and cross-cultural perceptions.
The school concluded on June 20 with an online closing ceremony and certificate award, marking the successful completion of another milestone in Russian-Chinese academic cooperation.
