International Conference FORECOS-2026 hosted by Volgatech: Dialogue of BRICS and SCO Partners

International Conference FORECOS-2026 hosted by Volgatech: Dialogue of BRICS and SCO Partners

On 15–16 October 2026, the university held the XV International Online Scientific Conference “Forest Ecosystems under Climate Change: Biological Productivity and Remote Monitoring” on the Yandex Telemost platform. Since 2005, the conference has established itself as an authoritative international forum where key forestry issues are discussed in the context of regional and global climate change. The forum hosted by Volgatech consistently advances the ideas and solutions of the Bishkek Declaration of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization “Together towards a Sustainable World, Development and Prosperity.” Its holding also became an important stage in preparation for the BRICS Interregional Business Forum scheduled for 29–31 October 2026 in St. Petersburg. Amid reduced cooperation with former western partners, Volgatech is purposefully strengthening scientific and business ties with the countries participating in new integration associations such as the SCO and BRICS, viewing this area as a priority vector of international development.
Over two days, leading researchers from seven countries — Russia, China, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Iran, Ethiopia and Cameroon — gathered on the virtual platform of Volga State University of Technology. They actively discussed current issues in modern methods of monitoring and remote assessment of forest cover, forest fires, climate change, bioenergy, mapping of subtropical forests, afforestation of post-agrogenic lands, transformation of urban forests, as well as promising international projects and technologies for sustainable forest management. The event became a platform for exchanging advanced ideas and strengthening global cooperation in forest science and ecology. The conference was attended not only by scientists and postgraduate students of PGTU but also by specialists from leading Russian research centers, including Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, Kaluga, Ufa, Moscow, Penza, Belgorod and Syktyvkar.
Following the event, all reports will be published in the international collection of articles “Forest Ecosystems under Climate Change: Biological Productivity and Remote Monitoring.” One of the key results of the conference was the initiative to create permanent networking among scientists from BRICS countries, aimed at consolidating data and coordinating joint research programs.
