On May 29-31, 2025 the International Scientific Conference GIS in Central Asia – GISCA 2025 was held at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, bringing together more than 130 participants from 9 countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Austria, China, Tajikistan, Saudi Arabia and Germany.

By decision of the members of forestry organisations, Professor Eldar Kurbanov was elected the chief representative from Russia on the IUFRO Council (International Union of Forest Research Organisations). It unites over 15,000 scientists in more than 630 member organizations in 115 countries and is a member of the International Science Council.
During the World Youth Festival in 2024, the Republic of Mari El carried out the Cultural Patronage programme with the delegation of the Republic of Iraq. This programme implies intercultural exchanges between Iraq and Russia.

On October 16 and 17, 2024, Volga State University of Technology hosted the 13th International Online Research Conference on "Forest Ecosystems under Climate Change: Biological Productivity and Remote Sensing" based on the Yandex Teleconference platform.
On May 27, the online signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation between Volga State University of Technology and Semnan Science and Technology Park took place. Semnan Science and Technology Park is located in the eponymous province in Northern Iran, and is a hub for innovative companies and an incubator for small businesses.
The Department of Research and International Affairs of Volgatech continues to develop cooperation with its strategic partner, Fujian Normal University (FNU) of the People's Republic of China. In October 2023, Professor Eldar Kurbanov visited the College of Geography, Geoinformatics, and Future Technology at FNU in order to strengthen partnerships and expand interuniversity cooperation.
On October 10–12, 2023, two events took place in Iran (Tehran) at once: The International Industrial Exhibition “EXPO-RUSSIA IRAN 2023” and the Tehran Business Forum. Anna Polukhina, Professor of the Department of Service and Tourism, Head of the International Students Office, and Aleksei Baev, Associate Professor of the Department of Radio Engineering and Biomedical Systems, Director of the Student Design Bureau, represented Volga State University of Technology at the event.
From September 25 - 29, representatives of the Institute of Forestry and Nature Management underwent an internship training under the educational program "Formation of sustainable forest phytocenoses and strengthening their carbon-depositing function in the conditions of climate change", within the long-term foreign cooperation and the further development of mutually beneficial partnerships with the Belarusian State Technological University.
International Scientific and Practical Conference "BRICS Regional Cooperation: Issues of Rational Natural Management - Ecology, Education, and Tourism" concluded in Petrozavodsk.
In July 2023, Iurii Zaitsev, the head of Mari El , travelled to Beijing with members of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation to promote collaboration with China, a reliable and prospective trading partner of Russia.
At the end of May, Volgatech staff members of the Center of Sustainable Forest Management and Remote Sensing participated in the International Conference GISCA 2023 "Geospatial approaches to understanding the changing world", which is held among the countries of Central Asia and China in a distance and face-to-face format.
This year the event was held at the Kyrgyz State Technical University named after I.Razzakov. Projected applications for joint research projects, academic mobility prospects in the framework of Master's degree programs, and launching double degree programs were discussed during the visits.
From May 15 to May 19, the director of the Training and Experimental Forestry of Volgatech, Nikolai Popov, attended an internship for managers and experts from the Russian Federation's forestry sector in the Republic of Belarus. The educational visit of our region's delegation was made possible by the Union of Forest Users of the Republic of Mari El.
The International Cooperation Department of Volgatech has agreed to the signing of three new partnership agreements with foreign universities.
On September 28, a delegation of the Consulate General of the Republic of Tajikistan in Ufa arrived in the Republic of Mari El on a working visit. The guests' stay in the region included an extensive program. Representatives of the Consulate met with Yury Zaitsev, the Head of the Mari El Republic, and discussed the opportunities for the growth of bilateral collaboration. They also visited universities of the Mari El Republic.
From September 2 to 5, Makhachkala hosted an international forum attended by leaders of youth organizations, young business people, and students from Russian and Egyptian educational institutions. The Federal Agency for Youth Affairs and the Ministry of Youth Affairs of the Republic of Dagestan organized this event.
Tashkent University of World Economy and Diplomacy hosted the international conference "Central Eurasian Studies" on June 23 – 26, 2022, organised by the Central Eurasian Studies Society (CESS).
Volgatech staff members of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence participated in the international conference GISCA 2022 "Development of Geospatial Ecosystems", which is held annually in China and Central Asia
